Driving directions: From the entrance you go North about 0.13 mile To the Turner Oak in the circle. where the Turner Oak is located you turn West for short distance. Greenwood Memorial has been a perpetual care commercial cemetery since its dedication in 1909. It is owned and operated by The Mount Olivet Corporation, a non-profit organization that was founded by the Bailey family of Fort Worth. The Turner Oak which you go by on way to the plots is a historical landmark dating back to the Civil War days when many of the Southern states including Texas withdrew from the Union. Charles Turner, 1822-1875, one of the founders of Fort Worth, opposed the sucession of Texas from the Union; but, when the State voted to sucede anyway, he showed evidence of the mandate by equiping a company of local volunteers out of his own pocket. However, when the Confederancy demanded that it's citizens exchange their gold for Confederate notes, Turner chose not to follow the directive. Instead, he buried his gold under a live oak which was growing on his farm (on which Greenwood is now located) he had settled in 1851. After the war, Turner used his gold to aid in restoring to prosperity the town he had helped found. Other Notable burials within Greenwood include Rod Roddy, Amon G. Carter, Van Cliburn, Roy Roberts, Ormer Locklear, Lillian Moore, Tom Baker, Anna Harriet Heyer.
