Robert M. Flanagan, prolific inventor,
accomplished engineer, died September 30, 2006, at the age of 93. As a Senior
Executive at Bendix Aviation, Fairchild Engineering, Roton Manufacturing and
Amerace Corp., Mr. Flanagan developed and holds 45 patents in Aircraft,
Commercial Equipment and Highway Safety Industries. Major accomplishments
include the development of Snowplowable Highway Markers and B52 aircraft.
He is
survived by Eunice, his beloved wife of 66 years; his children, John (Julie),
Sharon, nee Cook, Richard (Candee), and his brother David (Laura); cherished
grandfather of Christine, Kelly, Kim, Krista, Sean, John and Kate; adored
great-grandfather of Robert, Erica, Vincent, and Chloe; preceded in death by his
daughter, Mary. He will be missed by many.
A visitation will be held on
Wednesday, October 4, 2006, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Kelley and Spalding Funeral
Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10
a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2006, at Holy Cross Church, 724 Elder Lane,
Deerfield, IL. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in
his name to the Executive Director, Rev. John P. Smyth, Standing Tall Charitable
